Having a child in the Armed Forces is a challenging thing. On one hand, you’re thrilled that they’re serving our great country – but on the other, you’re scared about their safety and well-being. That’s why you snatch up each chance to see your child and savor every second!
For Heather Almond, this is the reality she faces every day. Her son Gavin recently enlisted in the United States Army and is in the middle of his basic training!
So when Heather had the opportunity to spend a weekend with her son, she jumped at the chance and rushed over to Fort Benning in Georgia.
The proud mother swooped up Gavin and took him out to lunch at a nearby sushi restaurant. But when Heather asked for the check, something odd happened….
Heather shared what happened next with the Spotlight Facebook page.
“This weekend I went to visit my son at Fort Benning with my daughter and mother. He is at basic training and it was family weekend.
He loves sushi, so we found a Japanese restaurant.
We probably ordered $100 worth of food and when we went to pay, the waitress said that the people at the other table had picked up or bill and they said to thank your son for his service.
They were gone before I found this out, but I happened to snap a picture of my son that had one of the people in the background.
I don’t know who she is, but I can tell you that it meant the world to us. We will find a way to pay it forward.”
The strangers didn’t need to get involved, but they recognized Gavin was spending a rare moment with his family in between basic training courses and wanted to help.
This moment is one that Gavin’s family will remember forever!
